Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area

Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area is situated above Guguan on Provincial Highway 8 and is accessible from Guguan through forest roads. This vast 2492-hectare area ranges from 750 to 2424 meters above sea level. The highest point in this area is the central Basian Mountain. Since the numerous alpines and valleys block the gusty wind, the mean annual temperature is around 18ºC. With its beautiful forests and rivers, this breezy area was nominated as one of Taiwan’s top eight scenic destinations.

Since most of the area is incredibly steep, the major recreation sites are situated in the slightly hilly areas. As the purest tributaries in the middle reaches of the Dajia River watershed, Shiwen and Jiabau Creeks contain a high volume of water and provide mineral water of the highest quality. The magnificent Shiwen Creek valley has numerous unique rugged rocks and pristine emerald pines that give visitors the impression that the landscape has a certain ethereal and impalpable aura. The Jiabautai Waterfall is located halfway along the hiking trail and is the ideal place for forest bathing. Mountains, waters, giant rocks, sharp cliffs and forests make up the spiritual beauty of Basianshan.
