Not biking, This Time We Learn Rice and Hunting in Guanshan, Taitung

Asides from biking, it is also interesting to join “Rice, Millet and Hunting Fun” arranged by Rice School in Guanshan.
The activity includes learning not just rice and millet, but a hunter’s wisdom. You won’t find it anywhere else, this fun activity is only in Guanshan.

Guanshan Rice School reminds visitors to value farmers, the land and food as well as learn to understand the farming activities during the tour.
The following activities are included in the half-a-day “Rice, Millet and Hunting Fun” tour-
A, the looks of the rice before hulled and how to get a bag of rice with “sincerity”
B, what the indigenous people’s millet looks like and how it feels to husk the rice by feet
C. how to communicate with birds which is a hunter’s basic knowledge, and see how a hunter set up the traps
The rice class will introduce the rice grains and how to pack them and bring a bag of rice home. A row of buckets in Rice School are filled with all kinds of grains, and visitors can touch, feel and bottle them to finish their assignment.

And learning how to pack and hull before all can bring a bag of Guanshan Rice home. The most interesting is to “voice control” the hulling machine, which is activated by correct passwords.

Millet isn't our daily staple, some may not even know what it looks like. In Kaina Studio, visitors can learn to hull, sift the grains and make the millet mochi.

“Hunting Fun” is led by this Bunun hunter who taught visitors some hunting skills and the hunting culture in an interesting way.
