Taiwan has over 60 species of fireflies, making it one of the islands with the highest density of fireflies globally, and firefly watching is possible year-round. The peak season is from March to June, when recreational agritourism sites across Taiwan transform into hidden places for firefly-watching. Travelers can not only witness the breathtaking spectacle of thousands of fireflies dancing simultaneously in a pristine environment free of light pollution, but also experience the charm of agritourism, feeling the connection between people and the land amid the natural fields. It is not just a firefly-watching trip, but an unforgettable journey to deeply experience Taiwan's rural culture and natural ecology.
To ensure a better viewing experience for more visitors and to protect the firefly habitat, please note the following information before heading out to watch the fireflies:
Wear long sleeves, long pants, and cloth shoes.
Do not make much noise.
Do not leave the boardwalk.
Do not go up the mountain on rainy days.
Do not catch fireflies
Do not use light for illumination.

There are over 2,000 species of fireflies worldwide, and Taiwan currently has about 60 known species, distributed from plains and suburban mountains to mid- to high-altitude mountain areas. These species have aquatic, semi-aquatic, and terrestrial types. Terrestrial fireflies constitute the largest group, among which the aquatic "Luciola hydrophila" and the semi-aquatic "Pristolycus kanoi" are the only two rare and protected firefly species in Taiwan.
