Enjoy Rice and Plum Picking in Fuli, Hualien

Every August to September, the blossom of Orange Daylilies in Fuli, Hualien draws many visitors. Asides from the Orange Daylily season, plum activities are available in its production season from March to May.
Fuli does produce plums!
Next to the Luoshan Organic Village, the plum garden locates on the hillside of Coastal Mountains Range. The area is around 2 hectares and the production is not big so the spots open to visitors are limited. Don’t miss it!

How to arrange your trip for this seasonal activity? In the morning, Fuli Farmers’ Association and farmers lead visitors into the plum garden to pick plums. On the way to the plum garden, the docents will introduce the ecology in Luoshan Village, Fuli; and have lunch at Fuli Farmers’ Association to relish Fuli rice. Wanna know which one tastes better, rice from Fuli, Chishang or Guanshan?
“Rice from Hualien and Taitung is scrumptious!”
The guy at the farmers’ association said truly. You can have a few more chews, and see if the terroir of Fuli rice is any different.

Activities in the afternoon is to wash the plums and make the plum vinegar. Washing the plums picked in the morning, tourists can add the sugar and vinegar proportionally according to their taste to make the vinegar of their own. This bottle of vinegar, 600 ml, can be brought home and placed still for a few weeks before savoring it!

We recommend parents and children to join the DIY rice egg roll and pop rice, or other tailored-made activities for fun and food.
For outdoor exploration, Luoshan village is a stone’s throw away, visitors can bike over there, look for the delicious hervidero tofu, and go onto the trail for the Luoshan Waterfall and enjoy the unique leisure in the valley!

A friendly reminder, there are two crops a year (some places on the east coast have one only) in Hualien and Taitung, so if you want to try dibbling of rice seedling, make sure to make a reservation with the farmers’ association before spring break and summer vacation; for those who want to see the golden rice waves, come visit around the harvest seasons, either June or December!
