Wine Expert Studied in Germany Showing How to Pick Fruits and Taste Wine

Iku Vineyards names itself after the owner of first generation. Current business is run by the second generation, Weizhi LAI a wine expert studying in Germany. After accomplishing his study, he was in charge of the wine business in a famous hotel in Taipei. Then he returned to Changhua to take care of the family vineyards and establish Bed & Breakfast business.
Weizhi LAI, one of the few wine experts in Taiwan with experiences in grape growing, wine making and wine services, is also a lecturer of the wine courses in National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism and Dayeh University. There may not be more than 10 Taiwanese with such an educational background and working experiences. In view of this, the most valuable activity in Iku Vineyards is to have Teacher LAI show us the common wines in Taiwan and teach us wines as well as wine tasting.

Teacher LAI understands European wine culture; therefore, he views wine as a kind of beverage in our daily life, more than a drink enjoyed on special occasions. During wine tasting, tourists will learn how to appreciate wines, and Teacher LAI also explains the features of wines from different origins and ideas on food and wine pairing. If tourists stay in the B&B, they will be invited to taste several kinds of wines. Some visitors are wine lovers who came to stay in order to exchange knowledge with Teacher LAI and have their questions answered.

Weizhi LAI utilizes farming techniques to strengthen the sugar level and the size of grapes to enhance the quality and unit price. Meanwhile, he develops value added services to the agricultural produce, including the product development of grape noodles, grape juice and grape jelly, and he also launches experiential activities and runs the only B&B in Dacun Township, Changhua County.
The vineyard is behind the B&B. At the time we visited, we saw grapes covered by the bags in the net room and harvest takes half a month. We imagined there would be much work in the harvest period. Grape picking in the garden, the first mission is to listen to the picking instruction. If the vines are mistakenly cut, the harvest of next year will be ruined so the importance of the instruction cannot be overemphasized.
Teacher LAI moved briskly in the garden and effortlessly answered our questions. He even opened the bagging to give explanation. Because he has lecturing experiences so that he is very eloquent in responses and uses analogies to explain the difficult theories, listeners can easily absorb the concepts.
B&B of Iku vineyards is European style. There are plenty tree plantations in the courtyard. Sitting under the blue-sky vines and enjoying the cool breeze naturally delights the mood. We recommend tourists arrange an afternoon here to pick fruits and taste the wine in the harvest season.
