Yun Min Villa on Mt. Liushidan Hoards Good Tea

When visitors go to Mt. Liushidan to watch the daylilies, the first store they would pass by is “Yun Min Villa”, whose owner, Mr. Jun Yuan WANG, is fantastically skilled in making tea and has won several awards in competitions.
Led by Mr. WANG, visitors learned the agenda of the day in the tea garden. They’ll first get properly dressed, wear the bamboo hat and bring the tea baskets before going to pluck the leaves, or to be exact, nip one-tip two-leaf tea leaves, in the garden.

Yun Min Villa grows Jhinhsuan, big-leaf oolong and Chin-Shin-Oolong. Organic farming is adopted for the whole tea garden with a size of 2.2 hectares, and its factory has been certified for the organic tea-making method. Because it is pesticide free, visitors can find tea jassid on tea leaves. This tea garden makes the famous Honey Black Tea in Hualien. If coming with children, parents can accompany them to observe these insects, the cause of the honey flavor.
This time we made honey green tea which is slightly oxidated. The freshly picked leaves were placed in the shadow area for slight oxidation and withering before sent into the stirring machine. It takes experiences to set the temperature and time.

Tea panning after stirring. This experience is offered by many tea factories. During tea panning, juice is squeezed out of the tea leaves until the leaves can stay in the hands without falling down. This takes strength, skills and patience. Normally it takes 3 hours. After panning, the tea is ready to be dried in the drum.

Tastes of honey black tea from Hualien vary, because Yun Min Villa locates at a higher altitude with bigger temperature difference between the day and night, such conditions are much better than those of some famous tea production areas. Its tea flavor is enriched by the mountains.
The garden owner made honey green tea to treat us. The tea had a honey fruit taste with lasting after taste. Not bitterness nor astringent mouth feel proves its top quality. The tea production is not large here but the pricing is affordable so that it is worth a visit for tea lovers. The good tea hidden in Mt. Liushidan was so tempting that I couldn’t help myself sipping some more.

This year, Fuli Farmers’ Association together with the tea houses in the mountains launched a brand “Dancha 60”, with a hope that every one would drink a cup of tea a day and live for another 60 years. Yun Min Villa also carries “Dancha 60” branded Jhinhsuan, Honey Black Tea, Oolong, as well as various teas with organic certification. Such a competitive tea garden is worth visiting.
