Fireflies only grow in a clean environment without light pollution so we can hardly see them in urban area. The suburbs where fireflies emerge are in the distance, which means transportation is always an issue when it comes to firefly watching. But Taomi Recreation Leisure Area is nearby National Chi Nan University. When you drive into the community from Provincial Highway 21, it takes less than 2 minutes to get to the recreation area. Transfer by the shuttle bus arranged by the recreation area then walk about 5 minutes, you will see the unforgettable scenery with fireflies flying around. Visitors from Taichung metropolitan area can drive to Puli after getting off work at 5pm and catch the time fireflies show up. How convenient!
There is always an ecological introduction before the firefly watching. Taomi Recreation Leisure Area trained the community members to be docents so that the residents who know the place best show visitors into the community and introduce fireflies and the environment in Taomi. When you go watching fireflies, do follow the docents’ instructions and take care of this ecosystem.
