[Seasonal Recipe] Avocado for Avocado Salsa, an appetizer in summertime

Rich in Nutrients Numerous Benefits

From every July, avocados are in season here in Taiwan. Avocado is rich in nutrients. Though it is fruit, the nutrients it carries are close to those of vegetables. It’s high in fat and rich in multi-vitamin so it is called “the butter for the poor”. It makes people feel full and it is low in GI so that people consider it perfect food to lose weight.
There are 50 some varieties of avocados worldwide, and 30 some of them can be found in Taiwan. Their features are different, some high in water content, some creamy and some tastes delicate and soft. But how to get the most from them? Nutritionists said, Eating “raw” avocados is the best so to keep its nutrients and it doesn’t taste bitter and astringent.

[Seasonal Recipe] Avocado Salsa

Ingredients:
1. 3 avocados
2. 1/2 onion (minced)
3. 1 Roma tomato (diced)
4. 2 cloves minced garlic
5. Half bowl coriander leaves (to taste)
Seasoning:
1. 1 lemon (juiced)
2. 1 teaspoon salt
3. Appropriate amount black pepper
Directions:
1. The avocado peeled and pitted. Remove the pulp then mash it.
2. Mix the mashed avocado with other diced or minced ingredients and season to taste.
3. It goes well with cornflakes, quesadillas or chips. So appetizing!
